L3.3 – Opener’s Rebid

You have opened in a suit (12-19 HCP) and partner has responded, in a new suit (this makes it a FORCING bid) you MUST bid again,  but what ?

Always plan your second Bid

Just Good advise

Remember Bridge is a partnership game

Sometimes !!

1. Rebidding your own suit

A) When you rebid your own suit at the lowest level

  • 6 card suit or longer
  • Not more than 15 points
  • It is NOT a forcing bid

B) When you make a “jump”rebid you show :-

  • 6 card suit or longer
  • 15 points or more
  • It is NOT a forcing bid

C) When you make a “jump”rebid to Game :-

  • Exceptional Length
  • Strength for Game , even if partner only has 6 HCP
  • This is a “Sign off Bid

2. Rebidding partner’s suit

A) When you rebid partner’s suit at the lowest level

  • 4 card support , or more
  • not more than 15 points
  • (N.B. you can add points on for a FIT)

B) When you jump rebid partner’s suit

  • 4 card support , or more
  • 16-18 points
  • (N.B. you can add points on for a FIT)

C) When you jump rebid partner’s suit to Game

  • 4 card support , or exceptional support
  • 19 points or more
  • (N.B. you can add points on for a FIT)

Any rebid of your own or Partner’s suit is a LIMIT BID

So, It’s NOT FORCING

3. Bidding a New Suit

  • You must have 4 of the new suit
  • By and large it will show 5 and 4 distribution
  • If Rank of 2nd suit is higher than first you are showing 16+ points (Reverse)

4. Bid NT

  • Shows that you are balanced
  • Have more than 14 HCP
  • 1NT = 15-16 HCP (sometime 2NT will show this)
  • 2NT = 17-18 HCP
  • 3NT = 19+
